Crop Video
Crop a video to a new frame or aspect ratio, such as 9:16 or 1:1, in your browser and without uploading the file.

or drop it here
The video is processed on this device and never uploaded.
MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, 3GP, TS / MTS / M2TS or VOB / MPG
Files over 1 GB can be slow. Very large outputs need a browser that can save straight to a file.
How it works
Choose a video, pick an aspect ratio or keep Free Form, then drag and resize the crop box on the preview. Press Crop video and your browser cuts every frame to the box and encodes a new file. Nothing is uploaded.
The box is converted to whole pixels of the original video. Widths, heights and offsets are rounded down to even numbers, which video encoders need, so the frame can be a pixel or two smaller than the box on screen.
Supported files
- Inputs
- Any video your browser can preview: MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM almost everywhere, MKV in most desktop browsers.
- Outputs
- MP4 (H.264 and AAC) or WebM (VP9 and Opus), at high quality.
Limitations
- Cropping always re-encodes the video, so it takes longer than a copy and loses a little quality.
- The crop box needs a preview, so files your browser cannot play cannot be cropped here.
- The output keeps the main audio track only, and subtitle tracks are dropped.
- Cropping makes a new file. Your original video is not changed.
- Very large outputs need a browser that can save straight to a file (desktop Chrome or Edge).
Questions
Can I crop a landscape video to vertical (9:16)?
Is my video uploaded?
Why is the output a pixel smaller than I set?
Does cropping change the resolution?
Example
A 1920 x 1080 landscape clip cropped with the 9:16 preset and the box centred keeps a strip of about 608 x 1080 px from the middle of the picture (both sides of the frame are removed), ready for a vertical story.
